Utilizing Health Insurance
If you find insurance, rates, and payment options confusing or overwhelming, know that you are not alone and that I will work with you to understand each step of the process.
Currently, I am an "in-network" provider with Blue Cross and Blue Shield (BCBS) and Aetna an "out-of-network" provider with all other insurance companies. There are several types of BCBS plans though, especially from the marketplace, that use a smaller/different provider pool - so I am not in-network with all BCBS plans. Verify through your plan if I'm in-network or not even if you have BCBS or Aetna.
However, most insurance plans have out-of-network coverage, and I will either help you file your paperwork or will file it electronically for you if you prefer. At the end of the month, or upon request, I will electronically bill insurance for you or will provide you with the necessary documentation you need to submit to your insurance company, if you intend to seek reimbursement. Often insurances are willing to reimburse your cost in full or in part, possibly after a deductible has been met.
If you are self-pay or do not use your insurance, I will provide you with a good faith estimate of charges for services.
I draw upon on evidence-based methods that are proven to be effective in a timely manner in order to save you time and money. The amount of time or number of sessions that each person needs varies, and after an intake session with you I will work with you to form a plan for treatment, so that you can plan for the time, money, energy, and other resources you will invest in our work together.
I encourage you to contact your insurance provider prior to your first visit, so that you can understand your benefits. Helpful questions to ask insurance company include:

- Does my policy include a mental health benefit?
- What is your reimbursement rate for in- or out-of-network mental health providers?
- Is there a limit to the number of sessions that you will approve?
- Do I have an annual deductible? If yes, what are in in-network and out-of-network deductibles?
- How much of my deductible have I met this year?
- How many psychotherapy sessions am I allowed per year, and when does the calendar year for my policy start?
- If applicable, does my policy cover couples counseling?
- Is pre-approval or pre-certification of sessions required?
- Is there anything else I should know about using my mental health benefits?
